Virginia Buckingham





Virginia Buckingham founded Goldthwait Advisors LLC after a 35-year career as an innovative leader across government, media and industry. A 14-year senior executive at Pfizer, she was also the first woman to serve as CEO of the Massachusetts Port Authority, operator of Boston’s Logan International Airport. Virginia wrote the Amazon #1 Bestseller On My Watch on leading the response to the terrorist attacks of 9/11 and writes and speaks extensively on its lessons of resilience, crisis management, and leadership.

Following her public service, which also included stints as chief of staff to two successive governors and press secretary to one, Virginia penned by-lined columns and editorials for a major metro-daily newspaper, The Boston Herald, including influential interviews and endorsements of presidential candidates in the nation’s first primary. Transitioning to the private sector, she pioneered multiple innovative public affairs strategies to support biopharma innovation in the US and abroad for Pfizer, Inc., including strategically driving digital advocacy and communications arounds its Covid response.

A member of the American College of Corporate Directors (now merged with Corporate Board Member), Virginia has significant experience serving on and working with Boards of Directors. A member of the highly selective Presidential Leadership Scholars leadership development initiative sponsored by the libraries of four former US Presidents, she also is a frequent television commentator on public affairs, including on Boston’s ABC affiliate WCVB’s award- winning weekly public affairs program On The Record.
